Julie took time out from a recent “work related” research trip to review her experience and share the benefits that come with this very special program.

Going to Gwinganna has always been on my bucket list, and after experiencing numerous changes in my life and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt like I needed a reset. That’s why I decided to sign up for the 5-day Sugar, Stress, and Sleep program.

Initially, I was nervous about going alone, but I felt it would allow me to get the most out of the experience. Since getting married over 20 years ago and having children, I have never been alone on a break, except for the annual girls’ weekends.

As soon as I arrived and checked in, I felt at ease. The beautiful old buildings have been relocated to the property, and being in this gorgeous landscape away from the stresses of the city was a welcome relief. The accommodation was well-appointed, with options for all levels. I stayed in one of the new Wellness suites, which opened this year. They are located high on the ridge, with stunning views of the ocean. My suite came with its own golf buggy since it was a little way from the main resort. It also had an outdoor bath on the deck, where I could sit and enjoy the views while feeling one with nature. Additionally, it had an infrared color therapy sauna and a wellness massage chair in my room. I thought I would never have to leave!

The food was delicious and healthy, and contrary to what I expected, we were fed often and in ample portions. You could choose to do as little or as much as you liked in the program, and no one judged you for your choices. Everyone was there for different reasons.

The seminars were informative, and the staff was experienced and down-to-earth, sharing their stories of the journey towards a healthy lifestyle. After exercising in the morning and moving our bodies, we had rest time after lunch, and the spa was the place to be. The spa has 33 rooms, the largest in the southern hemisphere, and the best steam room I have ever been in.

The range of treatments were very extensive, and there were some unique therapies that were only available at Gwinganna and were very popular. They also offered wellness therapies like counseling, meditation, and Equine therapy, which I didn’t get a chance to do, but the guests who did loved it and had some “ah-ha” moments about themselves.

By the end of the 5 days, I got to know a few of the guests on a deeper level, and as a group, we underwent a transformation together. We came in like tightly wound coils and left relaxed in our bodies and minds. One of the nicest things was the lack of technology. No one was preoccupied with their phones, and we were all fully immersed in the experience.

Gwinganna LogoI won’t detail everything that happened as I want you to do yourself a favor and put Gwinganna on your bucket list and make it happen. You will be reinvigorated and tap into a deeper level of your being.

The lessons I took away from this experience, such as slowing down, taking time to breathe, and quieting the mind, are things I plan to follow in my daily life. I definitely plan to revisit Gwinganna because the feeling you have when you leave is incredible, and being in nature and giving yourself permission to work on your wellness is one of life’s most special things.
